BLADE: THE SERIES premieres tonight on Spike TV with the two-hour pilot. I’m a huge fan of the BLADE movies, so I’m really looking forward to this, even though every movie they’ve tried to make into a show in the past decade or so has been worthless. With David Goyer involved, though, I’m at least hopeful. No, it doesn’t star Wesley Snipes, but some rapper whose name I’m too lazy to look up, but I want to say is something like Sticky Fingaz.
Stephen King adaptations usually suck, too, and I think that goes double for the TV miniseries, which stretch a good two-hour idea into six or eight grueling hours of boredom. But next month’s premiere of NIGHTMARES & DREAMSCAPES on TNT could be a right move, since each one-hour episode adapts a single King short story. Besides, William H. Macy is involved, so it’s not standard Z-level cable stars or anything.
RENO 911! supposedly started its new season already on Comedy Central, but damned if TiVo is turning up anything but repeats for the next two weeks. This week also saw the much-anticipated second-season premiere of THE VENTURE BROTHERS, possibly the one truly great show Adult Swim has left. Its sharp humor didn’t disappoint. If you haven’t bought VENTURE’s first season on DVD yet, remedy that pronto. Go Team Venture!
At any rate, NBC’s original summer “webisodes” of THE OFFICE can’t kick off fast enough for me.

Please excuse this diehard Buffy fanatic as he reaches for his smelling salts in anticipation for a fainting spell brought on by the vapors.
I realize the Whedon world was not for everyone, but worthless? Nuh–as they so eloquent;y say–huh.

I should watch my generalizations. I should have clarified: shows based on movies that were GOOD.
That said, I’m one of those people in the “not for everyone” category. I think every single one of my friends loves BUFFY, but I found it all too precious. Yeah, I know I’m weird.

For the record, I cannot fucking stand Buffy at all. It’s in my top ten wqorst, most overrated shows ever–and I’ve onl;y scene one episode. This hatred lies mostly becuase I cannot stand Buffy fans–mix the creepiness of a your average middle-aged Natalie Portman-obsessed pedophile with the passion of a Star Wars-obsessed Claymate multiplied by the snarky, above it all, “oh-look-what-witty-self-referential-diolouge” that Gilmore Girls fans like so much and you have a recipie for inspiration to cause me to murder.

The new season of RENO 911 starts Sun. July 8th along with the scraps of whatever Dave Chapelle left them before he took off to South Africa and MIND OF MENCIA which is exactly like CHAPELLE’S SHOW except it’s not the least bit amusing.
And I’ve never seen so much as a single episode of BUFFY. But I’ve seen and heard Sarah Michelle Gellar (pronounced Gell-are just so nobody thinks she’s Jewish) being interviewed before and man oh man, is she ever annoying and obnoxious. And you can tell she’s been in show biz since she was a kid because all of her anecdotes revolve around something that happened on a set and she’s had no experience living life as a real person. Which is really kind of sad when you think about it. And she’s married to Freddie Prinze Jr. and I’d love to hear what kind of conversations these 2 have because I get the feeling they have about 2 brain cells between them.

I can easily separate content from hype, and I don’t pay much attention to the private lives of Hollywood celebrities, so I judge Buffy on its merits as a television show - it took a while to find its voice, but it’s some of the most creative, genre-stretching stuff I’ve ever seen. It lost focus in its last two seasons, but overall I consider it one of the most strongly written series I’ve watched in the last 10 years.
If I started paying attention to cults of fans before content, I’d miss a hell of a lot of great TV.

Go Team Venture indeed. Now that I have the season 1 set, I don’t have to watch any more TV, other than new Venture Brothers episodes. The only other thing I’m watching right now is the new season of Dr. Who, which I get off the Internet every Saturday night.
When I was unemployed and TNT was showing three Buffy episodes a day, I watched it. I don’t necessarily think I would watch it again. Now Firefly, on the other hand, don’t get me started.

Wow, Louis….
Try not to hold anything back and say what you really feel.
And while I question denouncing a tv show as one of the worst of all time based on having only watched a single episode (I would think it would take a bare minimum of three before such a conclusion could be reached), as well as being troubled by your vitriolic characterization of people who enjoy a filmed entertainment (if only because I didn’t become obsessed with Natalie Portman until it was legally okay for me to do so) I admire the passion with which you expressed yourself. Still, for my own safety, it’s probably best that we not meet (especially considering the fact that Gilmore Girls is another one of my favourite shows).

I wasn’t talking about you Allan. I should have clarified–if you’re here, you’re cool. I mean mosly the unshaven creepy types who hang out at Suncoast all day.
